I started learning coding in September of 2019. I was introduced to the programming language Java by my Introduction to Computer Science teacher. Throughout my freshman year I continued to learn new things and began to become more passionate about computer science. I started to further enhance my computer skills by learning more advanced concepts on my own. Ultimately this led me to further my passion for computer science. Aside from developing my programming skills, I continued to practice basketball and learn about new ways to give back to the community.
As the Covid-19 Pandemic continued to spread at exponential rates and impacted all of our daily lives, I began to find new ways to give back to the community. I began volunteering at Plainsboro peer tutoring where I helped children develop their mathematical skills. In my sophomore year, I started my AP Computer Science course A which helped me solidify/enhance my understanding of Java programming language. I also continued to learn new syntaxes which helped make my code more efficient. After programming for a while, I became more passionate about computer science and began considering a career in the field.
While many volunteering organizations were closed, I began looking for virtual ways to give back to the community. After speaking with some of my friends I learned about AiGo Learning. I was truly inspired by their motto - “Grow as you teach.” I truly believed that this opportunity would be a great way for me to give back to the community as well as continue to develop my own computer skills. I found many great curriculums that AiGo offers, the 005 course (Java) definitely appealed to me the most. AiGo also offers a python course (003) which I am looking forward to contributing in the future. Overall, I am thrilled to volunteer at AiGo and I hope to create a positive change in society.
I have been interested in the field of computer science for a long time. While developing my own programming skills is crucial, I firmly believe it is also important to pass on knowledge to our future generations. During the Covid-19 Pandemic many students are learning remotely, and many tutoring institutions are closed. I hope to provide students with quality instruction and ensure that every student continues to obtain the education they deserve. AiGo Learning is a great opportunity for me to do just that. I hope to teach students the power of programming while continuing to advance my own skills as well. I truly believe that knowledge is better shared than preserved, after all, knowledge is one of the few assets that grows as we share.
I wrote my first program at the age of nine, although it was a simple calculator, I was immediately enticed by the syntax behind it. At this early age, I began experimenting with a multitude of programming languages including HTML, C, and JavaScript before finally beginning to set my priority towards Java starting September 2019 and have continued to since. After my school moved to remote instruction due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, I began to learn more advanced concepts in Java on my own. I recently developed an interest to program in python and learning various machine learning algorithms. While I have nearly two years of experience working in Java, I am currently taking an online course to help me advance my knowledge beyond what is typically taught in the classroom. I have also tutored previously to students in mathematics and understand the unique approach required to educate students. I hope my expertise will lead to students becoming more passionate and ultimately successful in computer science.
